Irish Potato Breeders is a Research and Development Company.

 

Established in Ireland in 1982 by John Mara the company specialises in selecting and developing new potato varieties.  

 

New seedlings are tried and tested in selected locations in Europe, Africa, North America and Australia and evaluated under local conditions for suitability as fresh or table potatoes and for processing into fries, crisps and as mashed potatoes.40,000 new seedlings are introduced into the selection programme each year.

Seedlings showing potential for commercialisation are identified and retained for further development as new potato varieties.
